Features

The Kidde i12080 smoke alarm includes a safety light feature that provides 15 minutes of light when the alarm is sounding. It offers a tamper-resistant feature to deter vandalism or theft and a smart interconnect system that connects with up to 24 Kidde devices--including other smoke alarms plus carbon monoxide and heat alarms. The battery-backup feature (9-volt battery included) provides protection even during power outages, when many CO incidences occur. It has a large mounting base that helps protect surface paint from dirt and covers imperfections, and its pre-stripped wiring harness has an easy-off cap and tinned strands to increase conductivity.

By pressing the hush button, you can easily and safely silence nuisance alarms caused by non-emergency situations, such as overcooked dinners. This feature desensitizes the alarm for approximately seven minutes. During this time, the alarm chirps every 30 to 40 seconds. If the smoke is too dense, the hush feature is overridden and the alarm still sounds, and the alarm automatically resets at the end of the seven minutes. This convenient safety measure eliminates the temptation to remove the alarm's battery, which creates an unsafe situation.

The Kidde i12080 smoke alarm uses ionization sensing technology, which generally detects invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. Kidde recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to insure maximum detection.

this works great. we replaced all of our old units because they kept going off because they would get a spider in them (NOT FUN). We have not had any problems with these at all.

Easy to install and I like the light feature. Although in a real fire I'm not sure how useful this will be if the smoke is dense enough. It's nice and doesn't cost much more vs without the light. Battery backup is a must and this comes with 2. One for the light and one for the detector. Great price and deal with Amazon.

I installed 5 of these smoke alarms and about 3 weeks later, one sounded a warning at 3am. I removed it from the ceiling after checking the house and reinstalled it about a week later and reoriented the air duct cover about two feet away from it. No further problems with that one but another one in an different bedroom sounded an alarm in the wee hours so I'm dissapointed. Even after I blew it out with an air compressor it still acted up so I'm replacing it now.
