I work at an apartment complex that is 1 and a half years old and these were installed in every single apartment. I've had nothing but problems with these things. Been in the business for 10 plus years and never had problems with the kiddie brand, which is what all my old properties have had. My property is brand new, and 75% percent of my emergency calls are because of these pieces of plastic garbage. They burn through batteries like they're going out of style and chirp randomly, usually at 2 in the morning. You change a battery, then a month later your back in the same apartment changing the detector because it's chirping again. Then 2 months later your changing out the other detector. I've tried cleaning them out, resetting them, changing them, replacing batteries.... it's rediculous that they are even able to sell these things. I've never had to go back to an apartment at any other place that has had different types of CO/smoke detectors as I've... Didn't get it at Amazon. The contractor put it in during a remodel. It is similar to other problems here. It goes off in the summer when it gets hot outside. It is on the ceiling under the roof. I put a new air unit in the upstairs and keep it about 80 degrees and that is enough for it to go off. If I point a fan at it, it will stop. If I cool it way down upstairs and particularly when the sun goes down it will stop beeping. It gives me interment 4 beeps.I would like to hear if anyone has found how to make it stop reacting to the summer temperature changes. Or do I just call a handyman and replace it? 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful ![]() Kat Mo (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews This review is from: Universal Security Instruments USI-7795 120-Volt AC/DC Wired-In Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (Tools & Home Improvement) This came with my house when I moved in. The battery dies awfully quickly - I've had to change it every week or so, and sometimes it would even start giving the "chirp" low battery notification 20 minutes after I put a new one in. It drove me nuts. Wouldn't be surprised if this company is owned by a battery manufacturer to encourage battery sales, the way you go through batteries with this thing. |
