I did test its ability to sense Natural gas and it does work fine. I purchased this to put in my Boiler room where all my natural gas lines are located. For most homes the 85db alarm same as almost all CO and fire detectors is not loud enough for a Natural gas sensor as I realized after install. The reason is that smoke and CO are and should be located near the bedrooms as well as other locations in your home. So CO and fire are both in your living space and 85db is plenty loud. Now a Natural gas/Propane sensor needs to be located near the potential source of the problem and generally remote to bedrooms and/or the main living space. If you want to know if 85db is loud enough for you let me offer this recommendation. Take one of your smoke alarms to the location you plan to mount this unit. Have someone stand in the bedroom area and use the test function on the smoke alarm and see if the sound is loud enough in the bedrooms. I need to research more...
